Trans Mongolian Railway Experience

Off on our next adventure; catching the Trans Siberian railway from Beijing to Ulaanbaatar for 30 hours. A dawn start, and with 11 tickets printed for us instead of 12 for the group we were a little apprehensive as to whether we'd be ok getting on the train.

What an experience the train was! Fun and friendly carriage, free meal vouchers and very cheap alcohol!

The next challenge was at the Chinese Border control at 10pm as all of us but Andrew and Toby got off the train to stretch our legs and stock up in the duty free supermarket. Andrew was out for the count and not even the customs officer could wake him despite smacking him with his passport and yelling to get up!
Next thing we know, we are locked in customs house and the train takes off and disappears for 2 hours! No communication about when the train would return, just the tunes of "Don't cry for me Argentina" and "Green Green Grass of Home" blaring out of the train station speakers.
Turns out the train was having a new restaurant car added (we'd drunk them dry) and a few additional carriages for the extra passengers.

Overall a great experience and a fantastic journey through amazing countryside!
